Maya People: Finally – Recognition as Equals in Development and Participation
The Country of Belize is blessed with Maya People, a direct descendant of the Ancient Maya, a society that existed long before Christ, they have established their cities in the Yucatan Peninsula, in the north, Belize and Guatemala in the central area and north of el Salvador and Honduras in the south of the Maya World. Making up a complex civilization with a population of over 30 million people that had 31 tribes, each tribe spoke their own dialect, where the kings unified every tribe into one common culture.
Women in Belize
When we mention the word “women” a lot of people from both divides wonder what about them. Many or most of our Belizean women are not gainfully employed. But being a mom, leader, housewife is a 24/7 job. There is a saying that the best economists are our women but here in our country, many are downtrodden and disrespected. So, what is the role of women in the development of Belize? As a well-known activist once said, “women are half the voting population in our democracy and as such need to be politically empowered”. Whilst the whole world has seen more women prime ministers and presidents, Belize is very far from that, but the BPF is about to change that with its 50 % women mandate.
Belizeans Now Need to Demand Lots and Land
Belize is a country with a population of about 400,000 people. It is underpopulated and there is enough land in the 8,867 square miles, to give each Belizean a lot to build a home for his family and himself. Plus, almost every Belizean family own farmland which can be subdivided to give all their members a lot to build a house for themselves. Yet, there are hundreds of Belizeans at home and abroad, who are yearning to get a piece of lot to build their homes but cannot get a lot to do so.
Pastor Lucas’s Death Case
Justice Moore’s decision to hand down a guilty verdict on mason and his co-defendants for the brutal killing of pastor Llewellyn Lucas brought a sigh of relief among many Belizeans but if the maximum sentence is not granted which is death by hanging in accordance with the laws of Belize for intentional murder it will be forgotten.
Belize After 38 Years of Independence
Our country of Belize received its independence from Great Britain on September the 21st 1981. Yet, many of our people are living in a state of dependency, our government keep borrowing money from several countries and institutions to survive making us more financially dependent and our nation’s independence is still haunted by the Guatemalan claim to our territory.
Letter to the Editor of Channel-5 News
Dear Editor Channel-5 News,
I was made to understand that the Belize People’s Front (BPF) a political party in Belize with their Leader Nancy Marin, are the people who are organizing this protest in Belmopan. There is nothing in this news report that is saying that.
Permit Issued for a Peaceful Protest in Belmopan
A permit has been issued to a group of concerned Belizeans, who will assemble at the steps of the National Assembly building, to express their discontent this Friday. One of the issues is the recent murder of Adamir Choc as well as the violence and social issues plaguing the country. Earlier today, Commissioner of Police said that the group is allowed to exercise their right and the police department will be out there to ensure that the event is carried out peacefully.

The New River Pollution in O.W., Belize
UDP AND PUP MUST BE BLAMED FOR THE POLLUTION OF NEW RIVER AND ALL THE OTHER RIVERS LAKES AND STREAMS IN OUR COUNTRY FOR LACK OF ENVIRONMENTAL ENFORCEMENT.
When I was a Police Officer in Belize I was sent to Orange Walk District in 1974 to be stationed there. P.C. 308 Daniel Cacho who retired as an Inspector and myself, founded the Police Boys Club. We use to take the members of the club camping at the Tower Hill Toll Bridge. We implemented a swimming training for our cadets at that sight. When we were finished we stopped by Jim’s Cool Spot a bar and restaurant in the area to relax. A few of the cadets were complaining that their skins were itching them but I did not pay it much attention.
