Displeasure with Current Diaspora’s Bill

Topic: Displeasure with Current Diaspora’s Bill

The Members and Executives of The Belize People’s Front hereby make known its displeasure with the current Diaspora’s Bill which is being presented for approval of voting rights, for the upcoming referendum.

A bill proposing full participation of Belizeans living abroad, solely for the purpose of voting in the referendum is asking the Diaspora to assist them in securing Belize’s existence, but denying them the right to a say in how it is governed. This, to say the least, is a slap in the face of our people, and will not be tolerated.

Be it known that both the incumbents and the opposition, could have amended this constitutional breach, restoring the rights to our citizens. The opposition now choose to ride the tidal wave of voting NO to the ICJ, as a platform for garnering support, on the resignation of the government, as a result of a show of no confidence.

Be it also known that The Belize People’s Front has been the only Political Party that has in its Constitution, a full integration of Belizeans living abroad, a right, as enshrined in our country’s Constitution.

We demand they cease and desist from further contravening our country’s Constitution by granting citizenship to members that are not qualified.

In Solidarity,

Executive of The Belize People’s Front
