For: Press Release
Date: October 8, 2014
Topic: Regarding the Assassination of Special Constable, Danny Conorquie
The Belize People’s Front demands the following:
1-a. We demand that compensation be given to the family of our fallen brother Special Constable Danny Conorquie, killed in the line of duty.
1-b. We request that his family be compensated with $400 thousand BZD, in a lump sum payment. This would translate to a mere 50% of what this brave young man would have earned, given the economic indicators.
2. We demand that the Constitution be upheld regarding issuance of residency to Guatemalans. We demand that this government cease and desist immediately from this practise and not only that but that true patriotic Belizeans cease in their processing of any and all document as it relates to the below mentioned section.
(Ref. – Chapter 4, Part 3, Section 29, Subsection 3: No persons shall be entitled under the provisions of this part to be a citizen of Belize, or be granted citizenship of Belize, if such persons shows any allegiance to or is a citizen of a country which does not recognize the independence, sovereignty or territorial integrity of Belize.)
Regarding our Foreign Ministry; we have a twofold request:
3-a. We Demand that the Foreign Minister be removed and replaced with a more seasoned diplomat, one who holds the love of country above the love of personal ambitions.
3-b. That the Foreign Minister last official act be a public retraction of his infamous statement made at the Organization of the American States (OAS) meeting in Washington in December of 2009 calling our borders artificial. This has had major negative implications for Belize, and it is time we start the healing process.
As it relates to the incursions in the Chiquibul Reserve
4. We urge this administration to complete the construction of an outpost not just in the Caracol Area, but along the entire Western Border. We request that these outposts be built to military standards and able to house a platoon at the very least. The first action, we expect to be operational by the end of December 2014. This would be futile without the increase of patrols along the entire border of our country at all times. We want assurances that this is being implemented with the utmost urgency and demand to be fully informed in all decisions, planning, and cooperation as it relates to our sovereignty and Guatemala.
5. Further to the enhancement of security at the Caracol Mayan Site and our Western Border, we ask the Prime Minister, to secure a source of funding to the tune of $200 thousand dollars, to better equip, train and supplement the Rangers of Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD), who work tirelessly in the protection of our biodiversity and our National Heritage, alongside our security forces.
Regarding our National Security
6. >We demand that all construction on the Belize Coast Guard’s, Forward Operating Base (FOB) on Hunting Caye, not just be halted immediately, but request that all construction of our military bases, be done by Belizean companies with Belizean workers; our people need these jobs!
We further call on all Belizeans to show solidarity to our country, by boycotting Guatemalan products and services and while there can be many arguments against this boycott; their products can be sourced elsewhere.
